HOLIDAY GIFTS AND ORNAMENTS
FROM THE
HUNTINGTON HERB GARDEN

By Bea and Bill Jennings

The Docents of the Herb Garden have prepared for the holiday season by making items for our display table of “Gifts from the Garden” for November and “Wreaths, Swags and Pomanders” for December. We hope to encourage our visitors to be creative for the Holidays.

In the above photograph, the wreath on the left is made from hops on a grapevine frame. The large wreath on the right is made using a grapevine framework with sweet basil, Thai basil, lemon basil, lavender leaves, sage, scented geraniums, thyme, marjoram and rose hips. The tall red bottle in the middle is purple leaf basil vinegar; the bottle to its left is rose syrup. There is an assortment of jellies and jams in the small jars such as mint, grape and apricot (with dried roses on top of the jar). In the foreground are several pomanders: oranges completely covered with whole cloves and then rolled in a mixture of cinnamon and nutmeg and topped with satin ribbons. For the finishing touch it is tied with a bunch of dried lavender.

Please stop by the display table in the Herb Garden and perhaps you will be inspired to make Holiday gifts and ornaments from your garden.
