La Rose Impériale - The Development of the Modern Rose

Boone Gallery -- February 9 through April 28, 2008

Featuring 110 of The Huntington Library's rare rose books, La Rose Impériale will take visitors through the development of hardy, repeat-blooming roses in nineteenth century France. This exhibit is the centerpiece of our centennial celebration and features not only extraordinarily rare books from the Library's collection as well as interactive displays on fragrance and a life size virtual book. Using high definition technology visitors will be able to leaf through all 170 images from one of the most beautiful rose books ever published, Les Roses by Pierre-Joseph Redouté.

Rose Garden Renovation Continues

In preparation for the Centennial of the Rose Garden in 2008, we are renovating the older beds in the southwest corner of the Garden. During the renovation process the roses have been potted up and conserved while we enrich the soil and replace the irrigation equipment. Many roses are beginning to be replanted at this time.
